Soft & Chewy Brownie Hearts

Brownies are such an easy and yummy treat to whip up! You can make this recipe in a baking dish and leave as-is, or make these cute hearts for Valentine’s Day! These are great for your S/O, family, and coworkers.

Personally, I like my brownies a little undercooked and as-is, however, for Valentine’s Day, I decided to zhuzh them up with some sifted powdered sugar and of course, cut out into hearts. You can also add chocolate frosting for extra decadence!

Ingredients:

  • 1 Cup Melted, Earth Balance vegan Butter (optional to use real butter)
  • 4 Eggs- Room Temp
  • 2/3 Cup Unsweetened Cocoa Powder
  • 2 Cups Sugar
  • 1 Cup Flour
  • 1 1/2 Tsp Bourbon Vanilla (Trader Joe’s)
  • 1/2 Tsp Baking Powder
  • 1/2 Tsp Himalayan Salt

Make It:

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees
  2. Butter 9×13 baking dish
  3. Whisk cocoa & melted butter (Silicone is great for this, plus check out this cute mint & rose gold whisk set!)
  1. In a large bowl, whisk eggs, sugar & vanilla, then add cocoa mixture.
  2. With a wire whisk (I like using wire for dry ingredients as it sifts through better, thus more accurately mixing), whisk flour, baking powder & salt separately. Use a silicone spatula to add to liquid mixture.
  3. Pour mixture evenly Into baking dish
  4. Bake for 35-45 minutes. Test middle with toothpick- you’ll want it on the underdone side, so you do not want a clean toothpick coming out, but you also don’t want a running middle. The consistency should be more sticky.
  5. Let cool & use greased, heart-cookie-cutter for heart-shaped brownies. Alternate your cutting pattern to maximize the amount of hearts you’ll get. There will be left over bits and crumbs that you’ll just HAVE to eat in the process! Or, use them to make a brownie shake or mix into ice-cream. No brownie bit left behind!
  6. Finish with sifting powdered sugar over top. (If frosting your brownies, frost before powdered sugar.)
